MALTON GIDDHA GROUP

Malton Giddha Group, which is a South Asian women's dance group, is an inseparable part of the Malton Women Council. This group consists of some 40-45 women (which includes mothers and grandmothers and children) who want to share the richness of their culture which they bring from their roots in Punjab (Regions of India and Pakistan).

Giddha is a folk dance form, traditionally danced by women who share the stories of their lives through dancing and singing. Malton Giddha Group had the wonderful experience of performing at various events, some of which are

  • Multiculturalism Day Celebration (June 2009, at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre)
  • Malton Community Festival (2009, 2010 & 2011)
  • Solidaritea –A Multifaith Celebration of International Women’s Day (March 2010, at the Hart House Theatre, University of Toronto)
