MWC's 2nd Annual International Women's Day - March 15th 2013
Malton Women
Council, in collaboration with Malton Community Building Project, celebrated
its 2nd Annual International Women's Day on March 15th 2013. The Four Corners
Community Resource room was brimming with the enthusiasm and positive spirits
of some 80 attendees , which included the Council members and their families
who joined these amazing women in their celebrations of WOMANHOOD!!!
Dr. Sehdev
Kumar, the keynote speaker at the event, shared with the audience his profound
views on the important roles which men play in the women's journey of
empowerment. As the event theme was 'Men Empowering Women, some of the men took
opportunities to share their thoughts about supporting the women in their
lives, in the capacities of husbands, fathers, brothers and friends. One of the
speakers rightly remarked -" A woman's
empowerment cannot be just an all woman's affair- it's imperative that the men
in her life in many different roles, respects her, understands her and supports
her, so that she is able to blossom and do her best in every facet of
life."
Among the distinguished
guests present at this event were - Mr. Baldev Mutta, CEO -Punjabi Community
Health Services; Ms. Amandeep Kaur , COO- Punjabi Community Health Services;
Mr. Nasir Chattha, CEO- Heartland Creditview
Neighborhood Centre and Ms. (Mala) Rookmin Baljohn-Ramcharan -Barrister, Solicitor and Notary Public.
The other
highlights of the event included display booths by the women entrepreneurs of
MWC; ravishing dance performances by MWC's Youth Wing; presentation on the
journey of the Council; young girls sharing their thoughts on being a girl and
a strong woman of tomorrow and absolutely scrumptious food and cake!
