MWC's YOUTH WING

It has been almost 3 years since Malton Women Council was formally formed in Oct. 2009 - with a vision of creating happier and healthier families and communities through 'women empowerment'. During these 3 years we have been able to create a very strong women's support group - with so many of our women taking on the leadership role in the Malton Community!
One of the important achievements of Malton Women Council is that we have been able to create a platform for our young girls, whereby they are able to express themselves, share their dynamic ideas/thoughts and are gradually emerging as young leaders.
MWC's Youth Wing has shown very active participation in the following community based initiatives and events -

  • Malton Resident Rejuvenation Initiative (MRRI)
  • Malton Community Festival - 2012
  • Sharing Rich Traditions Event
  • Carabram -2012

Here are some beautiful thoughts shared by our young girls on how do they feel being a G-I-R-L.....

Sahij Gill

Hi, my name is Sahij Gill.

I am ten years old, in grade 5 and I go to Dunrankin Drive Public School. Some of my favourite hobbies are swimming, art, drama, dance and singing. Also I absolutely love reading. I enjoy being a girl because I have many dress up choices such as wearing dresses, skirts, leggings, patterned sweaters and sparkly or shiny shirts. I can make jewellery and wear it all the time and do bunch of hairstyles with hair accessories. I can decorate my nails and do makeovers using make up products. As a girl I wanted to get my ears pierced to wear pretty earrings. Personally, I like carring a purse around with me as an elegant accessory with all my needed belongings in it. I have many shoe collections to choose from such as flats, sandals, heels, zip up boots, and many more etc. A few accessories I use are hairbands, clips, flowers, rubber bands, styled gloves, and more girly things. In conclusion, I am very proud to be a girl because I am helpful, caring, and non violent.

Daaniya Dhillon

Who is today’s girl? She’s tomorrow’s leader. She is impacting her community – today and into the future. Girls can do anything! But the sad thing is that people don't think that way. They don't believe in the ability of what girls can do, but on the other hand my parents always treated me and my brothers equally and gave us equivalent opportunities. I got the opportunity to represent my school and attended the conference to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, 2010 and participated in Young Women on the Move- a program within the Toronto District School Board.

Media messages, cultural stereotypes and peers often tell girls that they have to look, act and be in  a certain way. With the slogan, “She Can Do Anything,” International Girls Day is a day to celebrate girls – all kinds of girls with all kinds of interests and abilities. It’s an opportunity to build confidence in girls and help them realize their potential.
